popcorn {like at the movies}
June 9, 2011 § 16 Comments
but my version is much healthier. plus, you don’t wind up feeling sick from all of the chemical-laden butter and fat found in popcorn at the movies. averie from averie cooks makes some really good versions, and one where she adds coconut oil! i also like to experiment with different toppings, but this variation is my go-to.
ingredients: {serves 1 hungry person + canine friend}
• 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
• natural butter spray
• kosher salt to taste
• nutritional yeast flakes – 2 T about {averie introduced me to iherb – an inexpensive website for bulk items}
• chocolate chips – 2 T or so
to do:
pop the corn kernels in an air popper. immediately spray the popcorn with the butter spray. sprinkle with a little salt and the nutritional yeast flakes. toss in the chocolate chips. enjoy!

Mmm..super:)

Mmm this looks divine!! I love lots of butter and sriracha on mine :)
I’ve never heard of adding yeast flakes! That’s a great idea. We’ve already lightened up with an air-popper as opposed to the butter-laden microwave popcorn, so looks like yeast flakes are the next step!

Glad you’re enjoying the popcorn! :)
I haven’t thought of adding yeast flakes either…what kind of flavor does that add? Or is it more of a textural thing???? I’ll need to try this for sure.
